Pricing questions
An API call is any request that passes through your Endpointwise gateway to an upstream service. Requests that are rejected by rate limits or auth before reaching the upstream still count as API calls — they go through the gateway and consume routing resources. Health check pings from the dashboard do not count.
Yes. On the Platform and Scale plans you can configure a custom domain for your docs portal (e.g.
api-docs.yourcompany.com). You point a CNAME record at our infrastructure and we handle TLS provisioning via Let's Encrypt. The Starter plan provides docs at a subdomain under endpointwise.io.Issue a new key, then set an overlap window (1 hour to 30 days) during which both the old and new key are valid. Watch the traffic attribution in your dashboard to confirm your partner has switched. When old-key traffic drops to zero, revoke it. No downtime required. All rotation events are captured in the audit log.
Upgrade is instant and prorated — you only pay the difference for the remainder of your billing period. All your gateway config, keys, and docs migrate automatically with no re-setup required. Downgrading follows the same instant process; if your current usage exceeds the lower plan's limits, you'll be notified before the downgrade is applied.
Yes. The Starter plan is free to start — no credit card required. You get one gateway, up to 500K API calls per month, and spec-generated docs. Starter is a permanently functional tier, not just a trial. Upgrade when you need more APIs, higher call volumes, or custom domain support.
Rate-limit configuration is included in all plans at no additional cost. You can define as many per-endpoint rules as you need within your plan. The only volume metric that affects billing is total API calls per month — not the number of rate-limit rules, keys, or endpoints configured.
